Can Xbox Series S play discs?

Hey, I was thinking about buying xbox series S but I saw that the console does not have a disc input and is there any way to download the game from the disc to xbox? I'm just asking so that I don't buy a console and I can't play my games there.

There is no way to play games from disc with series S. Better invest a bit more and go for series X.

Xbox series S its a digital console only, for digital games so unfortunately there is no way to start up your games that you currently owns on the discs.

As @Wixter said, best option is to save a bit more and go for series X

What about external cd reader? The one you can use with laptops etc?

No, it will not work. Xbox planning something like that in the future, maybe, but atm nothing can be use. Bad luck for series S owners.
